Plain Soap

Plain Soap
Through a love of home crafts the first batch of soap was made 25 years ago.  It was a plain soap, but a pleasant discovery was made in the process.  Our skin had quit itching!  No more dry skin!

Since then we have discovered that handcrafted soap is far superior to commercial soap for the following reason:  It leaves an emollient film on your skin that makes it feel soft and sensuous. This “feeling” is from the glycerin which has been retained in the soap. In commercial soaps, the glycerin is removed for use in products such as lotions, creams, and other industrial uses.

The ingredient list for Plain Soap includes:
  • Tallow:  Soaps made with tallow are of excellent quality, fine to use on your skin.  The tallow used in Pure Prairie Soap is from our own home-raised beef and is rendered right here in our kitchen. The use of tallow soaps dates back over several thousand years and attests to its integrity as a basic ingredient in soapmaking.  Tallow’s attributes include a hard bar, stable lather, and skin conditioning.
  • Palm oil produces a hard bar that cleans well and is mild on the skin.  Palm oil is substituted for tallow when producing a 100% vegetable oil soap.
  • Soybean oil produces mild, stable lather and is often used in combination with other exotic or moisturizing oils.
  • Jojoba oil promotes a stable lather and is a good skin conditioner. It is an excellent emollient for the skin because it has a chemical composition very close to the skin's own sebum. It is suitable for all skin types, beneficial for acne conditions, and good for sensitive and oily skin.
  • Olive oil prevents loss of the skin's natural moisture by attracting external moisture to the skin.  It helps keep the skin soft, supple, and younger looking.
  • Coconut oil produces a hard, white bar of soap with abundant lather.  In combination with other base oils coconut oil contributes greatly to the quality of the soap.

When something is plain, what do you think of?  Some would say “lacking beauty or ugliness.”  Others might say “lacking special distinction or affection.”  Common, ordinary, boring also describe plain.

I would agree with all those things … but sometimes plain is nice.

Think of pure and simple, unobstructed, uncomplicated, basic, down to earth.

Plain Soap is all that … and more.
Plain Soap will wash away a hard day’s work
and leave you feeling clean and refreshed.
Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done …
nicely.
